96galtoter_01

Beginning October 2, 2017, citizens and businesses of La Marque will have new solid waste, recycling and bulk collection by Waste Management. The transition to new carts began today, September 18. Street parking should be avoided if at all possible.

LA MARQUE, TEXAS (September 18, 2017) -- Waste Management is hosting a meet and greet for the citizens of La Marque at 5:45 p.m. today, Monday, September 18, 2017, before the City of La Marque Special City Council Meeting. Citizens are invited to attend, see one of the new trash collection trucks, check out the new trash carts and visit with representatives from Waste Management. Refreshments will be provided. Please join us at Council Chambers, 1111 Bayou – Suite B, and celebrate the new and improved service starting in La Marque.

Beginning October 2, 2017, citizens and businesses of La Marque will have new solid waste, recycling and bulk collection by Waste Management. The transition to Waste Management carts began today, September 18. Every home will receive a new 96-gallon green cart with a green lid for items considered trash and a new 96-gallon green cart with yellow lid for items considered recycling.

Citizens should put out Republic Services carts on the normal trash day will receive new Waste Management carts between now and October 2. Citizens with special considerations, such as multiple carts and handicapped stickers, will receive the same from Waste Management.

If the Republic carts are not picked up, please leave them at the curb and start using the Waste Management carts. Republic will be servicing Waste Management carts until the new contract begins. If you have storm debris, set carts away from the debris pile.

Street parking should be avoided if at all possible. Storm debris trucks, trash trucks, City Public Services equipment, cart delivery trucks and cart pickup trucks need access to the streets of La Marque and should be given priority. Compliance with this request will make the storm debris process, and the trash transition process faster and more efficient.

New trash, bulk and recycling schedules will be delivered in an informational packet with the new carts. Some citizens will have a change to trash days. Waste collection will be twice-a-week and recycling collection will be once every-other-week. Bulk collection will be once-a-week with a limit of five-cubic yards at the curb at no additional cost to the residents. Anything exceeding five-cubic yards can be scheduled for pickup at an additional charge.

Recycling in La Marque resumes with the new trash contract on October 2. If you have not recycled in the past, we ask that you give the program at least two months before declining the cart.  After two months, arrangements to pick up the cart can be made. This is a complementary service and City leadership encourages everyone to participate.

There have been no increases to water and sewer rates but citizens can expect an increase of about $5.56 a month for residential trash service. According to Tina Ortiz, La Marque’s Utility Billing Manager, citizens would have seen an increase with any vendor the City chose.

“No trash service increase has been passed on to citizens of La Marque since 2014,” Ortiz said. “Inflation and cost of doing business are attributed to the increase but I think our citizens will be happy with Waste Management. They are a Texas-based company committed to customer service and recycling. They are invested in our city and want to help us keep La Marque beautiful. We would have had an increase no matter what, but with Waste Management, we’re getting more bang for our buck.”

Additional services include city-wide recycling and Waste Management’s At Your Door Special Collection, which provides residents with front-porch service to collect the difficult, sometimes hazardous, and hard-to-recycle items that almost every household accumulates. Waste Management will collect the pesticides, household chemicals, sharps, electronic waste, batteries, fluorescent lamps, automotive waste products, paints, thinners, and dozens of other items that don’t belong with your recyclables or regular curbside waste pickup.

Despite their best efforts, Waste Management will occasionally miss scheduled collections. If they do, please call 800-800-5804. They will try to return on the same day. If the driver has already left your area, they’ll pick up what they missed the following day.

Beginning on October 2, 2017, there is a new phone number for trash, bulk and recycling. For questions about trash or recycling service or to schedule additional bulk collection, call 800-800-5804. To schedule a Waste Management’s At Your Door Special Collection pickup or for information, please contact 800-449-7587, e-mail atyourdoor@wm.com, or visit www.wmatyourdoor.com.
