La Marque City Council, in partnership with Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce, has scheduled La Marque’s Lemonade Day Galveston County Kickoff Celebration from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2018, in the Community Room, 1109 B Bayou Road. Parents or mentors are encouraged to attend and register school-age children for Lemonade Day 2018, a free leadership development program.

“By exposing our youth to the various principals incorporated into the Lemonade Day curriculum, we hope to cultivate and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs,” said La Marque Councilmember and 2018 Lemonade Day City Champion Chris Lane.

What is Lemonade Day?

Lemonade Day is a fun, experiential program that teaches kids how to start, own and operate their very own business: a lemonade stand. By running their stand, they learn the business and life skills needed to set a goal, make a plan and work the plan to achieve their dreams. Lemonade Day’s program builds self-reliance and financial literacy and introduces important business and entrepreneurial skills. Since 2007, more than 1 million youth have participated in Lemonade Day in more than 50 cities across the United States, Canada and South Africa. Lemonade Day allows youth to experience a new level of confidence and see new possibilities for their future – as the leaders, volunteers, and forward-thinking citizens of tomorrow.

Lemonade Day Galveston County

Galveston Regional Chamber of Commerce has been a champion and host for Lemonade Day since 2012. Last year, more than 11,000 Galveston County kids participated. Together with Councilman Lane, Mayor Hocking, City Council and City staff, Galveston Chamber hopes to grow participation in La Marque.

Registration

Youth of all ages across Galveston County, from pre-K through high school, can register to set up an official Lemonade Day Galveston County stand on Sunday, May 6, 2018. The program is free, but kids must register with a mentoring adult. Upon registering for Lemonade Day Galveston County, participants receive a backpack with an entrepreneur workbook that teaches them the Lemonade Day lessons including setting goals, planning, budgeting, advertising, purchasing, banking and more.

Engagement

Local professionals can participate through the Sponsor, Mentor, Partner and Volunteer aspects of the program. Galveston County school and youth organizations are encouraged to get involved with Lemonade Day Galveston County. Contact
