The latest update from the
US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas continues to show the possibility of coastal flooding and heavy rains over the next couple of days. Areas along the coast will continue to experience elevated tides throughout the day and into the evening.
Galveston County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning.
Flash flooding remains a threat across the County. Forecasts show rainfall totals of 4-7 inches through Wednesday. Remember, never drive into waters. Turn around, don’t drown.

Tropical Storm Beta rainfall forecasts came down overnight. Heavy bands of rain could bring up to 15 inches of rain. For La Marque, at least 4 to 6 inches is likely between now and Wednesday. Tropical-storm-force winds are projected through the day today, and flash flooding is still a risk in our area. Please stay weather aware, La Marque.
TS Beta landfall is still expected around Matagorda Bay, and then the storm will slowly move up the coast. By the time it reaches the Houston/Galveston area, the storm should be downgraded to a tropical depression.
The storm surge and coastal flooding threats were highest at 6:00 a.m. this morning. While rivers, creeks and bayous will still be slow to drain, there will be improvement over the next two days.

City of La Marque non-emergency offices are closed tomorrow, Monday, September 21, 2020. The La Marque Emergency Management team is activated and standing by to respond to Tropical Storm Beta. There is no change to our trash and recycling schedule. Please secure your trash cans as soon as possible and help us by removing yard debris that could impede drainage.
There is very little change in the forecast from this morning. Tropical Storm Beta is expected to make landfall Monday afternoon around Matagorda Bay. In the Galveston Bay and Greater Houston Areas, we will see gusty winds and heavy rain for the next three days. The slow-moving storm could produce up to 15 inches of rain along the coast.
Coastal flooding is possible in low-lying areas. High water could be slow to drain due to a combination of storm surge, high surf, high tide and rain. By Wednesday, conditions will begin to improve. Turn around, don’t drown. Please do not drive on flooded streets.

Tropical Storm Beta is moving slowly toward the Texas Gulf Coast. TS Beta is not expected to intensify. Landfall is expected Monday evening as a strong tropical storm with 60 mile-per-hour winds. Heavy bands of rain are expected Monday through Wednesday, which could contribute to flooding. High tides, high surf and coastal flooding remain threats with this storm.
Rain totals have been reduced slightly to 10 to 15 inches. Locally, most heavier rain will occur Monday through Wednesday. We are under a moderate risk for flash flooding. There is a marginal risk for tornadoes Monday night.

Galveston County Judge Mark Henry is holding a press conference at 1:30 p.m. today. It will be broadcast on local tv and social media. City of La Marque’s next update will come around 5:00 p.m. this evening.

Tropical Storm Beta is tracking to our south with expected landfall near Matagorda Bay. Rapid intensification is not expected, but there is still a chance that the storm could become a hurricane.
TS Beta is a slow-moving tropical storm, which could mean heavy rain and flash flooding Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Localized rain totals could be up to 20 inches over several the next several days. Tropical-storm-force winds are expected in our area as the storm approaches the coast.
Minor to moderate coastal flooding has already started. Elevated high tides are expected to continue through early the coming week.

Mayor Bobby Hocking has issued an Emergency Declaration for the City of La Marque and a voluntary evacuation order for southern portions of the city that are OUTSIDE the flood protection levee.
