Push-in ceremonies are a longstanding firehouse tradition stemming from days when fire equipment was carried on horse-drawn buggies and had to be pushed into the station by hand. City of La Marque will live-stream the events on Facebook and Channel 16. Citizens are welcome to attend and watch, but masks and social distancing are required.
According to Deputy Chief Ira Yardley, Council decided to invest in the trucks because La Marque’s fleet was aging. The new trucks are replacing a 1991 model and a 1997 model.
“The new equipment will allow us to offer better service to the citizens of La Marque,” Yardley said. “We have two brand new, custom built trucks – one at each station. We hope our community feels a sense of pride when they see us responding to calls.”
Yardley said the new trucks offer mid-mount pumps and significantly improved lighting, which is safer for our firefighters. Due to our long stretch of I-45 in La Marque, emergency personnel often respond to calls on the interstate. With the new trucks, firefighters can work from the top of the truck instead of standing in traffic.
La Marque City Council approved the procurement of two new fire trucks during the 2019 budget cycle as part of their “Contract with the Citizens”, which is a list of promises made to the citizens of La Marque in exchange for a tax rate increase. For information, visit contract.cityoflamarque.org.
