The City of La Marque is proud to present the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony immediately following our Magical Christmas Parade on December 7, 2016, but this year will be extra special. A&A Machine & Fabrication at 3010 Texas Avenue, James Crowder Funeral Home at 401 Texas Avenue and John A. Walker Roofing at 415 Main Street donated funds toward a sparkling new Christmas tree for this year's festivities.
Over the summer, City Receptionist Esther Bolton took it upon herself to start a fundraiser in the hopes that the City could purchase new Christmas decorations for the 2016 season. With the City Manager's approval, Esther started making calls and these three companies stepped up to the plate.
"We are so thankful that these business owners invested in our community," said Bolton. "Our citizens enjoy the Christmas parade so much and our families look forward to the Tree Lighting Ceremony each year. Just wait until you see that tree! It is something special."
The kindness continued with Dean’s Flowers. Dean’s donated their time and talents to reinvigorate the City’s Christmas wreaths. The beautiful, Cougar-blue wreaths are now adorning City Hall.
The City of La Marque's annual Magical Christmas Parade starts from Bobby Beach Park at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016. The new parade route starts from Bobby Beach Park on Westward. The procession will head south, turn left on Cedar, left on Bayou, right on First, left on Laurel and finally left on Bayou to the vacant parking lot near old Fireman's Hall.
The Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held at Walter Feigle Park immediately following the parade. Mayor Bobby Hocking invites all La Marque citizens and the surrounding communities to come have pictures taken with Santa and enjoy popcorn, hotdogs and hot chocolate. There is still plenty of room for floats. To enter, call 409-935-1408 or email darcie@texascitychamber.com.
