[ARCHIVED] HURRICANE HUDDLE

HH - int

Hurricane Huddle is a community event organized by the Office of Emergency Management to bring residents together to share information and resources about how to prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Our community Hurricane Huddle is an organized effort to educate and assist residents in preparing for a potential hurricane as we approach hurricane season.
Office of Emergency Management has organized this event for years to educate the public while partnering with Galveston County Office of Emergency Management, local businesses, non-profits, community organizations, and healthcare providers.

The event includes a range of activities and resources, such as:

  1. Educational Workshops: These workshops could cover topics such as the basics of hurricanes, how to prepare an emergency kit, evacuation procedures, and ways to protect homes and businesses from damage.

  2. Informational Booths: Booths staffed by local emergency management officials, businesses, and non-profits may provide resources such as hurricane tracking maps, preparedness checklists, and other informational materials.

  3. Demonstrations: Demonstrations could include activities such as mock evacuation exercises, hands-on demonstrations of hurricane shutters, and examples of how to secure loose items around the home that could become hazards during a hurricane.

  4. Emergency Supply Giveaways: The event may offer free emergency preparedness supplies such as first-aid kits, flashlights, batteries, and water to attendees.

  5. Local Business Participation: Local businesses may participate by offering discounts on hurricane preparation supplies and by sharing their preparedness plans with attendees.

The goal of our Hurricane Huddle is to help residents understand the risks associated with hurricanes and take the necessary steps to prepare for them. By providing access to resources and information, these events can help individuals and families stay safe during a hurricane and help the community as a whole recover more quickly in the event of a disaster.
