Republic Services will resume normal trash services to the citizens of La Marque tomorrow, Friday, September 1, 2017. The number one priority is health and safety so Republic will focus on putrescible trash, or household waste that decays.

LA MARQUE, TEXAS (August 31, 2017) – A week after torrential rains from Hurricane Harvey began, Republic Service will resume normal trash services to the citizens of La Marque tomorrow, Friday, September 1, 2017. The number one priority is health and safety so Republic will focus on putrescible trash, or household waste that decays. The city is diligently working on a plan for storm debris, brush and limbs.

La Marque Mayor Hocking asks that citizens remain patient during the monumental cleanup faced not just by the City of La Marque – but also by Galveston County, the Greater Houston Area and 53 counties across Texas.

“Republic is doing the best they can with limited staff and damage to their facilities,” Hocking said. “We are all suffering in some way and most companies are operating with limited staff. Understand people need time to assess damage to their homes, make insurance claims, find a safe place for their families and rest before they return to work.”

Many citizens lost carts during periods of high water. If you found a cart, please be neighborly, visit the people around you and return carts. If you lost a cart, ask your neighbors if they’ve seen yours.

TRASH FACTS:

  • If your normal trash days are Tuesday and Friday, beginning Friday, September 1, 2017 your routes will resume service.
  • If your normal trash days are Monday and Thursday, your routes will resume pickup on Monday, September 4, 2017.
  • Normal trash service includes trash that fits inside your cart.
  • Trash carts must be accessible for the automated truck to collect and empty. Please do not block by debris, vehicles or other obstructions.
  • There will be no interruption to trash service on Labor Day, Monday, September 4.

  • Recycling is suspended until further notice. If the recycling container is at the curb, it will be serviced as a regular trash pickup.
  • Commercial trash service has already resumed. Commercial customers should make sure containers are accessible. Consider monitoring containers/dumpsters and adding locks so they are not filled with residential trash and storm debris.

City officials are still working out the details of how to handle extra bags of household waste and whether citizens can take household waste directly to the dump. We appreciate your understanding. Please be patient. We are all in this together. Updates on debris collection will be posted on the city website and social media as soon as they become available.
