[ARCHIVED] Gulf Coast Water Authority Leak Impacting Water Service to La Marque Citizens and Businesses

The Gulf Coast Water Authority (GCWA) announced on Friday, Nov. 2, that it is making preparations to repair a water line that provides drinking water from its water treatment plant in Texas City to the city of La Marque and other Galveston County communities. These repairs are expected to begin the week of November 5 and could take 3 to 4 days, depending on the extent of the work. The leak was identified on Thursday, November 1, 2018.

GCWA will not take the line out of service until a sound plan, work crews and materials are in place to expedite the repairs to minimize any impacts in these communities. Water service providers in these communities have been advised and are making preparations to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for their customers. In La Marque, this service disruption would impact the area west of Interstate 45.

Details are forthcoming, but citizens west of I-45 should expect a switch to the city’s backup well water reserves as early as Monday. The switch to well water could result in a change of water taste and color. All City of La Marque water, including well water, is tested and held to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TECQ) standards.
