This month, the health district launched Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) at www.gchd.org/HEAL. HEAL is one of the biggest initiatives the health district has been part of and is aimed at making Galveston County the healthiest in Texas. The site includes monthly exercise and cookies videos, plus health recipes for the entire family and tips for shopping on a budget. There are also links to community walking trails and videos on how to read a nutrition label and how to shop for the best ingredients.
March marks National Nutrition Month. With the help of HEAL, MyPlate and other resources, you can learn how to savor the flavor while eating healthy. Check out our guest column by Chief Nursing Officer Eileen Dawley, RN. You’ll also find information on colorectal cancer and World Tuberculosis Day, as well as photos from our participation in the Mainland Mardi Gras Parade. This is the last week of the IT’S TIME TEXAS Community Challenge. Find out which Galveston County community is leading the way as we head into the final stretch, plus so much more!
