Storm Update_power outage

City of La Marque Emergency Management, Public Works and First Responders are prepared. Citizens can help by clearing debris from yards and ditches. Bring in trash cans and any items that could float into the drainage system during heavy rains.

STORM UPDATE 9:00 AM Sept 14, 2021

Many citizens of La Marque are without power this morning. Wind gusts from Hurricane Nicholas caused trees to fall, taking down power lines. Our drainage system is functioning, and all city systems are fully operational at this time. However, City Hall and many city buildings are without power or operating on backup generators.

Please take extra caution and avoid areas with downed power lines. City crews and first responders are clearing trees and road debris from our streets and the drainage system. If there is a tree blocking your street, please call 409-938-9280.

Waste Management trash pickup is delayed today. Please bring in your trash cans as soon as possible and keep debris out of ditches.

Nicholas has now been downgraded to a tropical storm and will continue moving across our area throughout the day today. Heavy rain will continue to impact the Texas Gulf Coast, and there is potential for flash flooding. Please do not drive on flooded roads.

Update from Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP): Check for updates here: https://www.tnmp.com/power-outage-map. Nicholas delivered additional significant outage impacts overnight. Our assessment is continuing and we’ll be able to provide more info, including a final restoration estimate, later this morning. Our phone system will tell most customers an estimate of 7 p.m., but we anticipate that changing.

Please stay safe, La Marque. To get storm updates from the city, please register at connect.cityoflamarque.org. For emergencies, dial 911. To report weather-related issues, please call La Marque Public Works at 409-938-9280 or LMPD Dispatch at 409-938-9269. To report a concern 24/7, visit concern.cityoflamarque.org.

Please monitor local news outlets for storm updates and follow National Weather Service Houston Galveston for creditable forecasts.

STORM UPDATE 1:10 PM Sept 13, 2021

Due to forecast rainfall and potential flooding, the City of La Marque's non-emergency offices were closed effective noon on Monday, September 13, 2021. Offices will remain closed on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The closure allows our employees to safely make preparations and take care of their families at home.

Although City buildings are closed, Emergency Management, Police, Fire and Public Works are still working and will continue throughout the storm.

The City Council Meeting and Public Hearing scheduled for tonight have been postponed. Please check the Agenda Center on the City website for information. Municipal Court is canceled, as well.

Today is the due date for water bills. If you have not paid your water bill, you can pay online or drop it off in the night box.  We ask citizens to avoid road travel if at all possible. An extension will be granted until we return and can take in-person payments.
