Monday, May 15, 2017, was a very special City Council meeting marked by the beginning of an era and the turning of a page.
Councilman Chris Lane was sworn in for his second term representing La Marque’s District B while longtime La Marque citizen and dedicated civil servant Clent Brown attended his last meeting as an elected member of City Council.
After a successful nine-year tenure on the Building Standards Commission, Mr. Brown ran for City Council in 2011. At the age of 80, Mr. Clent Brown became Councilmen Brown for the City of La Marque.
Accomplishments:
*Developed a historic poster paying homage to the City of La Marque’s rich history
*Oversaw major holiday decoration project resulting in numerous Christmas installations and Santa’s Sleigh for La Marque's annual Christmas Parade
*Sought donations for the refurbishing of an antique fire truck to be used during parades and to promote La Marque throughout the county
*Assisted in identifying properties for demolition as part of the City’s blight reduction initiative
Former Councilman Brown and Maureen, his lovely bride of 68 years, raised their family in La Marque and are pillars of our community. Thank you for your dedication and vigor. We appreciate your service and the City of La Marque has benefitted by your glowing example of hard work, family and civic duty.
Keep you light shining, Mr. Brown. We’ll see you soon. #iloveLaMarque
